Introduction to Definition and Classification of Pipe Fittings

Pipe fittings are widely used in our daily life, but the definite definition of pipe fittings is certainly not known by everyone. Pipe fittings are the parts that connect pipes together. According to the connection method, it can be divided into four categories: socket pipe fittings, threaded pipe fittings, flange pipe fittings and welded pipe fittings. There are elbows (elbow tube), flanges, three-way pipes, four-way pipes (cross head) and reducing pipes (reducers). Elbows are used at the place where pipes bend, flanges where pipes connect with each other, tees where three pipes are gathered, crosses where four pipes meet and reducing pipes where two pipes of different diameters are joined.

There are various types of pipe fittings, which requires us to carry out a reasonable and orderly classification in order to ensure that the role of each type is played to the extreme. There are the following main types :

1. Expanding pipe fittings. Expanding the end or a certain part of pipe fittings as per customers' requirements to form various shapes of pipe fittings.

2. Pipe fittings with flanging and sealing. Increasing the total strength of the pipe end to the outer or inner side of the pipe, or sealing the pipe end.

3. Pipe fittings with section shape changed. To process circular section into square, oval, polygon, etc. according to the requirements.

4. Bending pipe fittings. To change straight pipes into bends with different curvature radius, such as elbow, bends and so on.

5. Pipe fittings with flange and round edge. The former refers to pipes with their ends protrude outwards or inwards, while the latter refers to pipe fittings with a bump or groove in the direction of the circumference of the pipe.

6. Pipe fittings with changing wall thickness, which refers to changeing wall thickness along the length of the pipe.

7. Pipe fittings with changing diameters, referring to a diameter reduction at the end or on some certain part of the pipes.
